Overview

The University of Rome II, also known as the University Tor Vergata, is a young university in Italy, founded in 1982. The university has 18 departments in six faculties: Economics, Law, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, Medicine and Surgery and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences. As well as teaching and research, Tor Vergata has a third mission: promoting local social innovation and growth. The university sets up links with civil society and entrepreneurs to create innovative businesses that improve life for local people and provide students with employment opportunities. Few universities in Italy are campus-based; Tor Vergata goes against this trend with its expansive 600-hectare campus, which is home to the Italian Space Agency and the University Hospital Tor Vergata. The university Botanic Garden aims to be a teaching and research facility as well as a place students and staff can enjoy nature. It is used to observe the effects of different forms of soil engineering, CO2 management and energy sources. At the same time, it is a picturesque corner of the campus, home to idyllic spots like the bamboo garden and Arabian garden. There is a free shuttle bus between the campus and the nearby train station, from which it is an easy journey to Rome. The Italian capital is unmatched for its heritage, which stretches back to the ancient Roman Empire. From the Colosseum to St Peter’s Basilica, from coffee to pizza, Rome has endless delights to keep students interested.
