Saveetha University

Saveetha University is located in Chennai, India and specialises in medical and technical sciences. The university was established in 1988 with the opening of Saveetha Dental College, and in 2005, became the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, with the motto, “knowledge conquers all”. Courses are offered in the following disciplines: allied medical education; architecture; dentistry; engineering; law; management; medicine; nursing; pharmacy; physical education and physiotherapy. The university was awarded an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). They have also gained recognition from the Medical Council of India and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Their courses can be studied at undergraduate, postgraduate and specialty levels. The university follows the Multiple Interactive Learning Algorithm (MILA), an activity-based system using two-hour lectures which are divided into six segments. The MILA system follows 20 minutes teaching, then 20 minutes activity pattern, to keep the brain active throughout the entirety of the session. Activity sessions include: mind mapping, game-based learning, role play and scale up. Students are also given video recordings of the session in advance, so that the class can begin with a discussion. Castle Top Learning methods are also followed at Saveetha University, wherein the learning does not end with the classroom session, rather every lecture is followed by an out-of-class activity. Classes are also taught in small sizes to ensure effective sharing of ideas through discussion. Saveetha University had the first iPad university hospital system in the world. Student hostels provide a home-away-from-home experience for students, with weekly hostel committee meetings and Mess committee meetings to ensure the best experience possible for students. Students also have access to a gymnasium, swimming pool, football field and basketball court. There is a convention center for student performances and group meetings.
