Istanbul Medipol University (Medipol) is a private non-profit university established in 2009. Student admission to Medipol started in 2010.
Several associate degree programs are provided by four vocational schools in social, technical, and medical fields.
Medipol has 71 undergraduate programs in 13 schools. Twenty-four of these programs are in English. The undergraduate schools are the International School of Medicine, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Engineering and Natural Sciences, Fine Arts - Design and Architecture, Law, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Communication, Education and College of Health Sciences.
The International School of Medicine (ISM), offering education in English, attaches particular importance to research activities and has a double major program in tandem with the School of Engineering as well as MD/ PhD programs. The ISM has accepted the top-scoring students from the Turkish University entrance exam for the last 3 years in a row.
Fifty-one Master’s programs (two in English) and 25 PhD programs (two in English) are provided by three different graduate schools, and 30,676 students study in all these programs. Foreign students of 63 different nationalities study at Medipol.
There are 85 different student clubs that appeal to various interests of students.
Academic and administrative buildings accompanied by research, social, and recreational facilities, and dormitories provide services in three different campuses, Kavacık being the main one.
More than 50% of students are awarded different levels of scholarships, including full scholarship, for most of the students at the International School of Medicine and School of Engineering.
The number of graduates between 2012-2018 was 12,462. A total of 969 academic staff members who have solid backgrounds are employed at MEDIPOL. Between 2017-2018, the academic members of our university were awarded one TUBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) International Academy Award two TUBA GEBIP (Outstanding Young Scientist) Award together with the TUSEB (Health Institutes of Turkey) Aziz Sancar Science Award, TUBITAK Science Award, and Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award (in history and social sciences).
Since its foundation, the university has attached great importance to strategic planning as a management tool driven by goals and developed its strategic plans for 2012-2016 and 2017-2021.
The developed Second Strategic Plan 2017-2021 has been continuously monitored on unit, sub-unit, and personal scales. Meanwhile, concurrent efforts have been made for the steady improvement of quality assurance.
Achieving rapid institutional growth, Istanbul Medipol University aims to expand and implement integrated management driven by strategic and process management throughout the institution.
Medipol pays particular importance to program quality assurance in education with 21 programs already accredited and ongoing accreditation efforts for other programs.
One of the main aims of Medipol is to provide high-quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Incorporating high-quality hospitals, it strives to achieve high-quality standards in education and research.
Following the voluntary application filed in 2016, the external evaluation process carried out by the Higher Education Quality Council (YOKAK) between January 8th-11th, 2017, substantially contributed to Medipol University's institutional development and quality assurance efforts.
Qualified scientific publications and patent applications are rapidly increasing in number at Medipol.
Medipol has twelve research centers. Currently, the Regenerative and Restorative Medical Research Center (REMER) is the most pivotal research center of our university. Our Technology Transfer Office provides an advanced level of support to our scientists.
The Medipol "Health Technologies Institute" was established, bringing REMER, Medical Research Center (MEDITAM), Cancer Research Center, Bioengineering and Biotechnology Research Center, and Drug Development Center together under the same umbrella. This institute will improve the integration between inter-unit research projects and "translational research" projects.
Istanbul Medipol University made 210 national and 63 international applications in the last 5 years as part of intellectual properties, such as patents, utility models, and designs. Of its national applications, 136 are covered by patents, 52 by designs, and 22 by utility models. Of international applications, 49 are covered by PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), seven by European and seven by United States patent applications. The number of certificates obtained upon these applications is 59 for national intellectual properties.
