The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) is a public federal institution of higher education of teaching and research with campuses in different cities of the state of Goiás: Goiânia, Aparecida de Goiânia, Jataí, Catalão and Goiás. The largest campus (Campus Samambaia) is located in Goiânia, the capital of the state. Goiânia has approximately 1.25 million inhabitants and is located in the midwest region of Brazil, approximately 209km from Brasília, which makes it a reference point for industry and telecommunications. The implementation of several projects at UFG, due largely to the strengthening of relations between UFG and the government (federal, state and municipal), has helped the university to grow. The wide range of academic programmes in humanities, applied social sciences, linguistics, arts and letters, exact and earth sciences, engineering, biological sciences, agricultural sciences and health sciences has made UFG a large research institution and producer of scientific knowledge. Its extension and cultural projects are combined with teaching and research to establish a partnership between the academic world and society.
