Overview

Established as Chang Gung Medical College in 1987, the institution created additional departments in the decade after it was founded and became Chang Gung University (CGU) in July 1997. Today this private university is comprised of three main colleges, namely the College of Medicine, the College of Management and the College of Engineering, each of which holds a number of different departments. Some of these departments have played a role in national-level research projects which have been funded by Taiwan’s National Science Council and the National Institute of Health. The university campus is situated on a 37-hectare plot of land in Guishan District in Taiwan’s Taoyuan City. There are a number of facilities onsite that allow students and staff to enjoy sports, cultural and leisure activities and much more, as well as dormitories and all the educational buildings. CGU also works closely with businesses and companies in Taiwan in order to promote work-study programs, and the university has fostered good relations with organisations including Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and the Formosa Plastics Group. In fact, the Formosa Plastics Group Museum is located within the CGU campus. As well as fostering domestic relations, CGU has developed a partnership with Arizona State University in the United States, and together the universities have established the Chang Gung Bioinformatics Center which aims to prevent, detect and treat diseases such as cancer.
