The International Foundation Year Medicine & Health Sciences is for international students who want to study an undergraduate degree at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and selected Medical Schools in Europe and worldwide. This qualification is accepted 1 as an entry qualification to the first year of a range of degree programmes. See Progression Options below for full details.
This foundation course is approved by the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) for progression to a number of degrees, including their 6 year Medical Degree Programme. It is also accepted for a wide range of medicine and biomedical degree programmes at 8 other Medical Schools in the UK, Europe and worldwide.
Students who achieve top academic grades in this foundation course will be shortlisted for entry to Medicine at one of the participating universities. Final selection criteria differ by medical school, but include personal statement, recommendation letter, interview and/or entrance exam. Note that progression to medicine is not guaranteed, but students who are unsuccessful can be placed on other biomedical degree programmes instead.
The Royal College Of Surgeons Ireland was founded in 1784 as the national training institution for surgery in Ireland and is ranked amongst the top 250 universities in the world. You will require minimum AAA grades to be shortlisted and final selection depends on a personal statement, interview and work experience in a healthcare setting.
This foundation course is also accepted for entry to the following universities. Progression is subject to academic grades (AAB – BBB) and other criteria, such as personal statement, recommendation letter, interview and/or entrance exam.
